North Carolina 1790 Federal Census
Description: Performed by requirement of the United States Constitution, the first federal census of North Carolina enumerated the population at 393,751. This database is an index of that census containing the names of heads of households and a statistical breakdown of the inhabitants of each residence. Because enumerators recorded only the name of the head of the household, about 52,600 names can be found in this index. In addition to this information, a breakdown of individual county populations is given along with the number of households in the county, number of male and female residents, and slaves.
